How to Find Out the Size or Format (file extension) of a Photo

While in preview or while searching for photos on the web on in an email, you can find the properties of pictures.

  1. Right click on Photo One below
  2. A pop-up box will appear.

  3. Go all the way down to properties and Left Click on Properties.

Photo One

As you can see to the right:

The file name is called flowerone.jpg

The Type of File is a JPEG Image

The size of the file is 9350 bytes or 9.35 K

The dimensions of the photo are 200 x 130 pixels ( the first number 200 is the width and the second number 130 is the height)

The photo is nice and clear and the color is good. What is even nicer is the load time or the size of the file. This photo is relatively small in size and will not make your page load slow.

Photo Two

As you can see to the right:

The file name is called flowerone.gif

The Type of File is a GIF Image

The size of the file is 17608 bytes or 17.61K

The dimensions of the photo are 200 x 130 pixels ( the first number 200 is the width and the second number 130 is the height)

The photo is nice and clear and the color is good. What is bad is the load time or the size of the file. This photo is somewhat large in size and will make your page load slow. If you had to choose between the two photos, choose the smaller of the two file sizes when there is no visible loss in photo quality. In this case choose the jpeg.
