How
do Search Engines know I am here and
how do I get Listed?
1.
Go to "General Settings"
2.
Click the link that says "Enter
Keywords for Search Engines"
You
will see a place to enter "Titles",
"Descriptions" and
"Keywords" for each
page in your website. So why do you
need to enter titles, descriptions
and keywords?
The
answer is so that people who are looking
for you or for websites that have
the information that you have can
find you!
You can see an actual example below.
In this instance a search was done
on MSN for the term "low fat".
The title is the first thing in the
results, followed by your description
and then your url.
| MSN
Search Result Example for the
keyword "low fat":
Low
Fat Recipes - Cooking for Health
(A)
The Title
Low Fat Recipes featuring Quick
and Easy, Comfort Foods and
Elegant Party Fare. low fat
recipes, low-fat, diet food,
diet, fast and easy dishes,
desserts, entrees, breads, beverages,
peppers, spices ...
(B) The Description

(C) The URL (page of your website) |
So
what are the keywords? Keywords are
the terms and phrases that are pertinent
to your web page - in fact, they must
be on your web page. They are also
the terms that people would use to
find you on the web. As you see in
the site builder instructions, you
must enter your keywords separated
by commas. There is no need to use
capital letters. The search engines
will pick up either. (These words
MUST be used in the text of
your copy.)
The
keywords that were used on this particular
page were "low fat recipes,low-fat,diet
food,diet,fast and easy dishes,desserts,entrees,breads,beverages,peppers,spices,low
sodium,reduced sugar,lowcarb"
After
you have listed your titles, descriptions
and kewords and saved them and published
to the web, you will need to submit
to the search engines.
Google:
http://www.google.com/addurl.html
(Free)
Yahoo:
http://submit.search.yahoo.com/
(Cost Involved)
You
may search out the rest of
the search engines "Looksmart,
HotBot, MSN, AOL, Overture, etc."
and one by one submit your site. It
really does not take too long. We
would give you a total list, but they
buyout and are bought out and change
names so often, that it is not feasible.
Actually, if you just submit to the
major search engines, you will eventuaully
get picked up by the rest. It just
takes longer.
OR
You
may use a service like HyperSubmit
that does it for you for a small fee:
